Five favorite parts
I’m a big fan of the Quartersnacks five favorite parts segment; it's fun to be able to trace inspiration in skaters you admire and to also be astounded by the incredible lack of taste in skaters you like. I actually really like it when a skater I love has five favorite parts that demonstrate literally zero appreciation for novelty, that means that their novelty is fully uninspired, and therefore more authentic? Idk maybe a stretch. Now to my five favorite parts.
I was talking to Connor yesterday about how people like skaters that they see themselves in, find inspiration in or are generally relatable in some way. I don't think this is true for all people; consider the average adidas schmuck who loves the biggest and the techiest and the gnarliest shit, (miles silvas I hate you) but for the majority of us everyday folk I do believe that he's right. So this list is sort of framed through that lens. Ok. Recently I have been watching the shit out of this part, I love the song I love his sag I like portland footy its all perfect. Nollie three inspo, front disaster inspo, also maybe one of the best pushes in skating IMO. Also the greatest treflip ever.
I fucking love this part, Ben is the one. His fits, his push, his trick selection, (switch pivot) all of it is incredible. You watch this part and just feel the brute belief of his skating, idk he is just so relatable. Another portland part I guess I like portland skating. This dude really has the best trick ideas ever, 4:50 (no one does it like that), I love the park skating but also a really honest street skater.
Vincent Huhta-Hasselberg in Äckligt
I knew I needed to pick a Vincent Huhta part and I was kinda torn between which one so I picked the one that is most on theme with the tone of these parts, that relatable honest feeling. I love this guy. When I was in Vietnam I skated with an older german guy from cologne and he described Vincent as “having retardation in his limbs”. So you know hes the man. I love the way he looks so dissatisfied with his tricks; the way he sort of shrugs after everything. And also A+ trick selection that manny-ollie to nollie three with no foot adjustment is just elite. Great part great song irie guy!
I’m a huge stu fan, in my opinion he’s like a realer Ben K (I do like Ben K but there's something sinister about the guy). I love the way Stu falls, I like the way his pants fit, I like his tricks; there's something so honest about it. I think it's rare to see non ramp skaters and be like this guy is a soul skater, he does it for the love but I think Stu does. I also like that he wears a Spazz shirt all the time. I watch this part so often, its like a little shot of dopamine, two minutes and eighteen seconds of realness.
Matt Gottwig's "Birds" Krooked part
I obv needed to include some seattle into this list and I think this Matt part is the best version of modernish seattle skating. Matt is a sleeper, great trick selection big pop works as a cook at t-mobile stadium (goat) what else is there to say. The song in this part is so nice, Alex cooper is the best filmer ever. That kickflip is so nuts. And the dude loves his dog, I mean cmon.
Honorable mention is Max P in Sure by Johnny Wilson. Had to add this because he has that soul skater iriefecation in full allure in this part. Always inspired by this dude. Fuck instagram.
